How to Install Dropbox on Kindle Fire

If you are wanting to install Dropbox on Kindle Fire, you are probably already familiar with Dropbox and how it works. It is a great program that can be used to transfer files between computers and other electronic devices.

Dropbox isn’t currently available from the Kindle Fire App Store, but there is an easy workaround.

Step 1: Change Kindle Fire Settings

To install Dropbox on Kindle Fire, it will have to be done manually, so the first step will be to change the Kindle tablet’s settings to allow other Android apps to be downloaded.

  • On the original Kindle Fire: Tap the round "gear" icon in the top right corner of your Kindle Fire and select More. Scroll down the screen and tap Device.
  • On Kindle Fire HD and above: Put your finger in the top center of the screen and slide it down. A menu will appear that includes Unlocked, Volume, Brightness, Wireless, Sync, and More. Tap More, then scroll down to select Device.

Look for “Allow Installation of Applications,” then change the setting from OFF to ON by tapping the ON button. A warning will pop up about using applications from unknown sources; click OK.

Step 2: Download Dropbox for Android App

The next step is to download the app from the Dropbox website. Return to your Kindle Fire home screen, then tap Web in the top menu. From there, you can either open this article and click the below link directly or you can type the full address into your Kindle’s web address bar.

Go to and click the blue button to Download App.

Step 3: Install Dropbox on Kindle Fire

  • Original Kindle Fire: When the download is complete, you will see a notification in the top left corner of your Kindle Fire (it will be a number with a circle around it). Tap the number, then tap to open the notification.
  • Kindle Fire HD and up: While you are still on the Dropbox page (on the Kindle Fire’s Web tab), look for the three small lines in the top left corner. Tap those lines and select Downloads in that list.

From there, download Dropbox.apk by tapping on the file name, then click the Install button at the bottom of screen.

Now when you click on Apps from your menu bar and select the Device button at top, you will see the Dropbox icon in the list. Sign in with the email address and password you used to create an account with Dropbox, and you are done.
