If your DirecTV HD receiver (or your HD DVR receiver) is stuck on “Step 1 of 2: Checking Satellite Settings,” it doesn’t mean the receiver is bad. It could be that it simply needs to be reset. Try the steps below to get back up and running.
Step 1: Turn on both TV and HD Receiver.
Step 2: Open front panel on receiver, where red Reset button is located.
Step 3: Click red Reset button, then immediately click the Menu button and the Down Arrow (below Select) both at the same time.
Step 4: Continue holding down the Menu button and Down Arrow until screen changes to “Just a few more seconds…”
Step 5: Release buttons.
Step 6: Wait for screen to repeat start-up. (It will look the same as if you had clicked the Reset button again.) If it doesn’t restart and hangs up at “Step 1 of 2” again, go back to Step 3, above, and try to click the Menu button and Down Arrow a little faster after hitting the Reset button.
Step 7: Once completed, the receiver should go through the normal start-up process as usual.
Hopefully, this will correct the “Checking Satellite Settings” problem. If not, call DirecTV Support at 1-800-DIRECTV for more help or buy a new HD Receiver from Amazon.
